Conan O'Brien is known as a comedian, writer, and talk show host. He is most famous for hosting Late Night and Conan.

Parents and Education

Conan Christopher O'Brien was born on April 18, 1963, in Brookline, Massachusetts. His father, Dr. Thomas O'Brien, is a prominent disease transmission expert, the head of microbiology at Peter Brigham Hospital and a professor at Harvard Medical School. His mom, Ruth Reardon O'Brien, was a partner at Ropes and Gray law office outside Boston until her retirement in 1997. He has three siblings: Neal, an antique vehicle gatherer; Luke, a legal counselor and Justin, a business advisor, and two sisters. Kate is a teacher and Jane is a scriptwriter. The actor and comic Denis Leary is his cousin.

O'Brien went to Harvard University, where he studied American History. He was chosen as leader of the respected satire magazine, The Harvard Lampoon twice. After graduation, O'Brien moved to Los Angeles and started writing for Not Necessarily the News, a series on the cable station HBO. He also started performed with an improv sketch group, The Groundlings.

Wife and Kids

Conan O'Brien met Liza Powell, a publicizing official, in 2000 when she appeared in a sketch on Late Night. The two started dating, and after a year declared their engagement.

The couple married on January 12, 2002, in Seattle, Washington. O'Brien and Powell have two children. As their family is constantly trailed by paparazzi, Powel has tried to protect a private life for her and her children.

Conan O'Brien started out as a TV writer before moving in front of the camera to turn into a TV host. In the wake of writing for Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons, O'Brien handled a prime spot hosting Late Night and has hosted two shows since, the Tonight Show and Conan.

In July 2019, Conan was expecting Kumail Nanjiani, the Silicon Valley star on his show to promote his new action comedy film, Stuber. A half hour before showtime, Nanjiani called to explain that he was stuck on set of his HBO show, and would not make it out to Conan's Warner Bros. studio in time for his interview. O'Brien changed course and spent what may have been the first of two interview portions riffing with sidekick Andy Richter and a member of the studio audience. To get revenge on Nanjiani, O'Brien showed a segment from another film that Stuber will battle with on its opening weekend. Kumail tweeted an expression of remorse and said that Conan was his comedy idol.
