Fame

Background

Tyra Lynne Banks was born on December 4, 1973, in Inglewood, California. Her father, Don Banks, was a computer expert and her mom, Carolyn, was a medical photographer. Banks' folks separated when she was just six years of age, yet she says that she was too young for the separation to negatively influence her.

In her school years, Banks went to Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles. By 1989, at 17 years old, Banks had outgrown her cumbersome awkward stage and started to look like the tall, thrilling, caramel-cleaned and green-eyed beauty that she would eventually become. She stared her path toward magnificence and would soon illuminate runways and magazine covers. Her first endeavors to sign up with a modeling organization were met with dismissal and segregation. Banks remembers that one organization said she looked excessively ethnic.

Career

In 1990, while still in school, Banks signed an agreement with Elite Model Management, the biggest modeling organization on the planet. Soon thereafter, she shot her first print piece for Seventeen magazine.

In 2003 Banks wandered into the universe of reality television when she made, produced and hosted the UPN program America's Next Top Model. The show, which pits hopeful models against one another in a challenge for the name of America's Next Top Model, was UPN's most popular show in its initial six seasons.

In 2006 Top Model was picked to lead the new network, CW broadcasting company. The show, with in excess of 20 seasons added to its repertoire, keeps appearing on air as there seems to be no limit to how many young women look up to Tyra and want to appear on her show as a launching pad for their modeling careers.

Personal Life

Relationships

Banks rarely talks about her personal and family life. Her list of romances has included a few famous people throughout the years, including director John Singleton and basketball player Chris Webber. In January 2016, Banks and her long time sweetheart, Norwegian photographer Erik Asla, gave birth to a child, York Banks Asla. Banks had recently uncovered her issue with pregnancy and their child was birth by the means of a surrogate mother.

In 2017, Banks and Asla canceled their five-year relationship on friendly terms as they try to work as a team to raise their child.
