Background and Education

Halle Maria Berry was born on August 14, 1966, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the young little girl born to Jerome and Judith Berry, an interracial couple. Halle and her older sister, Heidi, spent the initial couple years of their youth living in an urban neighborhood.

In the mid 1970s, Jerome Berry left is significant other and children, after which Judith moved her family to the overwhelmingly white Cleveland suburb of Bedford.

Berry went to mostly all-white public school school, and thus was exposed to segregation at an early age. Her initial encounters with prejudice extraordinarily impacted her longing to exceed expectations and prove to the world that race would not hold her back.

Career

Halle Berry started a career in TV with a role on the sitcom Living Dolls in 1989. She then went on to star in the CBS prime-time drama Knot's Landing, in 1991.

Berry's first big break came soon when she was given a role as Samuel L. Jackson's sweetheart in Spike Lee's widely praised film, Jungle Fever. She went on to have a long career which was highlight by her Oscar win for Monster’s ball.

Personal Life

Family

Berry has a checkered romantic past as a highly desired woman in entertainment. She was engaged in a rocky love affair with Jungle Fever co-star Wesley Snipes before wedding Atlanta Braves outfielder David Justice in 1993. The couple separated in 1997, at which point Berry turned out to be drawn in to R&B musician Eric Benét. She and Benét were married from 2001 to 2005.

During a photoshoot for Versace in November 2005, Berry met her next beau, French-Canadian supermodel Gabriel Aubry. A while later, Berry affirmed that she and Aubry were expecting their first child together. The couple gave birth to a girl, Nahla Ariela, on March 16, 2008. She and Aubry split in 2010.

Berry then started dating actor Olivier Martinez. In March 2012, the couple got their sights set on marriage, and in April 2013, they reported that they were expecting their first baby together.

On July 13, 2013, a 46-year-old Berry and 47-year-old Martinez traded marriage vows in a cozy function at France's Chateau des Conde. That October, the couple gave birth to a child named Maceo-Robert. In 2015, the couple sadly announced that they were going to go their separate ways.
