Early Life
Steve Forbes was born on July 18, 1947 in Morristown, New Jersey. He is the son of Malcolm Forbes, the publisher of Forbes magazine, and Roberta Remsen. Forbes attended the prestigious Lawrenceville School in New Jersey and then Princeton University, where he graduated with a degree in history in 1970.
Business Career
After graduating from Princeton, Forbes joined the family business, Forbes magazine. He quickly rose through the ranks and was appointed president and chief executive officer in 1990. Under his leadership, Forbes magazine became one of the most successful business publications in the world.
In 1996, Forbes ran for the Republican nomination for President of the United States. He campaigned on a platform of tax reform, advocating for a flat tax system. Although he did not win the nomination, his campaign helped to popularize the idea of a flat tax.
