Early Life

Rheta Childe Dorr was born on October 24, 1866 in New York City. She was the daughter of a wealthy banker and was raised in a privileged environment. She attended private schools and was well-educated. She was an avid reader and was particularly interested in the works of Charles Dickens and George Eliot.

Career

In 1891, Dorr began her career as a journalist, writing for the New York World. She quickly gained recognition for her writing and was soon hired by the New York Evening Post. She wrote for the Post for several years before moving to Washington, D.C. in 1895.

In Washington, Dorr continued her career as a journalist, writing for the Washington Post and the Washington Times. She also wrote for the New York Evening Post and the New York Times. She was a prolific writer and wrote about a variety of topics, including politics, women's rights, and social issues.
