Early Life
Laura Ingalls Wilder was born on February 7, 1867 in Pepin, Wisconsin. She was the second of five children born to Charles and Caroline Ingalls. Her father was a farmer and her mother was a homemaker. Laura was a bright and inquisitive child who loved to explore the outdoors. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed writing stories.
Growing Up
When Laura was five years old, her family moved to Kansas. They lived in a small log cabin and Laura helped her father with the farm work. She also attended school and made friends with the local Native American children. In 1874, the family moved again, this time to Minnesota. Here, Laura attended school and helped her father with the farm work.
In 1882, the family moved to De Smet, South Dakota. Here, Laura attended high school and graduated in 1885. After graduation, she worked as a teacher and a seamstress. In 1885, she married Almanzo Wilder and the couple moved to Mansfield, Missouri.
Writing Career
In 1932, Laura began writing her memoirs about her childhood. She wrote about her family’s travels and the adventures they had along the way. Her books were an instant success and she went on to write eight more books in the series. Her books were so popular that they were adapted into a television series in 1974.
Legacy
Laura Ingalls Wilder is remembered as one of the most beloved authors of children’s literature. Her books have been translated into many languages and are still popular today. Her books have inspired generations of readers and have been adapted into movies, television shows, and musicals.
Laura Ingalls Wilder died on February 10, 1957 in Mansfield, Missouri. She is remembered for her vivid descriptions of life on the American frontier and her inspiring stories of courage and determination. Her legacy lives on in her books and in the hearts of her readers.
