George Floyd is known as an African-American man that passed away in Minnesota after being suffocated under the knee of an arresting officer.

Background and Age

George Floyd was born in 1974 and experienced childhood in Houston's Third Ward, one of the city's prevalently black neighborhoods. Floyd rose as a star tight end for Jack Yates High School and played in the 1992 state championship game in the Houston Astrodome.

Donnell Cooper, one of Floyd's former cohorts, said he remembered watching Floyd score touchdowns. Floyd overshadowed everybody on the team.

Career

George Floyd moved to Minneapolis from his local Houston in hopes of looking for some kind of employment and starting another life. Floyd found an occupation working security at a Salvation Army store in downtown Minneapolis.

He later started working two employments, one driving truck and another as a bouncer at Conga Latin Bistro. He lost his employment as a bouncer at an eatery when Minnesota's senator gave a stay-at-home request due to the coronavirus crisis.

One of George's cherished companions, Christopher Harris said he and a portion of their common friends had moved to Minneapolis looking for jobs around 2014. Harris said he convinced Floyd to move there too after he escaped jail.

Family

At the time of his death, Floyd was the father of a six-year-old daughter who lived in Houston with her mom, Roxie Washington.

Death

Before he passed away after being stuck for a considerable length of time underneath a Minneapolis cop's knee, George Floyd was enduring the same problem as a huge number of Americans during the coronavirus pandemic. He was jobless and searching for a new position.

On the unfortunate day of George Floyd's death, a representative at a Minneapolis supermarket called police after Floyd supposedly attempted to pass a fake $20 dollar bill. In broadly circulated cellphone video of the ensuing arrest, Floyd can be seen on the ground with his hands handcuffed without resistance while Officer Derek Chauvin squeezes him to the floor with his knee on Floyd's neck. The video shows Chauvin, who is white, holding Floyd down for quite a long time as Floyd complains that he can't breathe. The video closes with paramedics lifting a limp Floyd into an emergency vehicle.

Mayor Jacob Frey called for Chauvin to be criminally charged with homicide. Police say Floyd was opposing arrest, however, Chauvin's attorney has declined to remark about the incident.
